one last adventure of 2012

i ended 2012 today the very best way i could have. we were all desperately in need of a getaway after some not so great news last week (again with 2012, we won't miss you...) so my mom, dad, grandma, and i piled into my grandma's car to head north. i've spent a few days of my summer every summer since i was born in the windriver mountains of wyoming fishing in foot wide creeks, sleeping in the family mobile home cabin on the prairie, and boating on fremont lake. i've never visited during the winter so taking a drive around the lake plus taking a miniture hike along the ridge above the lake was a completely new experience. it was completely silent up in the mountains today. instead of people, we saw four bald eagles and a moose. the quiet gave us all a chance to catch our breath before the new year starts. i'm not one for new years resolutions because i operate better when i set specific goals for myself rather than general ones, but if there's one thing in 2013 i want to embrace, it's the simple gratitude of the present.

p.s. i'll be spending my new years eve eating peanut brittle and watching mad men in my christmas socks and sweats.

Yeah, I'll be glad to see 2012 off. 2013 is going to be splendid. Or at least, I'll make it so.

Love the pictures! I'm so envious of all the snow!

the simple gratitude of the present. that sentence sort of took my breath away. it was one of those gasp worthy moments where you realize that is the very thing you need to do with your life.
