two weeks

Something amazing happened today. I was walking along the sidewalk skipping in my glittering Toms letting the sun warm my face without a jacket on when I decided to check the time. Now, my fancy newly working watch that finally has the battery in it to make it work shows the day of the month at present and as I looked at it...I realized...it was the 14th! WHAT! Remember how I was complaining for weeks about how February was so gosh dang slow and how is it only the second, fourth, twentieth, sixteenth, and fifth of the month?? I haven't complained once about March and it's already HALF WAY THROUGH! How is this possible?? These past weeks have flown and I just couldn't be happier!!!

I'm sorry for going AWOL without notice. It wasn't intentional, I promise. In fact, you might (or might not have) noticed that I disappear every three weeks. Or so. And last week was one of the worst I've had yet! I had midterms, four papers, a project, and a presentation due. I was exhausted silly and blogging was not even on the radar. So here is what I've been up to for two weeks (my weekly update is going to occur weekly except for weeks like last one).

I'll be back tomorrow! I'm going to get back in the swing of blogging, I promise:)

weird with a capital WE

I'm not normally one to just simply "blog" things. I like to tell a story about why I like things .. instead of just...posting things I like...without explanation. If there's any difference.  I virtually have had no time to write a post or edit any pictures or upload them or even ask someone to fill in. BUT. Niklaas emailed me this delightful poem and it tickled my heart. And let's face it, it's too adorable not to share. And I feel like a post is better than no post! And this poem....I love it. I can't find the author...but if I did, I'd probably put a poster of him on my wall;) I promise to be a very very good blogger next week and comment EVERYONE back because I haven't done that in daysssss! Wish me luck on my test tomorrow and I'll be back this weekend! Ya-ya!

Compliment

I remember the first time
you named me “Good morning.”

And how, the night before,
you considered my ceiling,
where the passing cars outside
the passing cars outside
the passing cars outside
cast their shadows and liquid lights
through the slats of my blinds.

You said: “Hey Romeo--
your CD player is skipping again...
but your ceiling’s like fireworks for poor folks!”

And I liked that.

I like the tall pauses you take
when you tell your nephews knock-knock jokes.
And I like your theory
that men and women’s shirts button on opposite sides
so that couples can get dressed facing each other
after making love.

You seem to season your seasons,
your days, your time
with rhyme, not reason,
I’ve seen you. Daily. Nightly.
I’ve watched you housebreak a puppy
just by asking politely.

And your remedy for insomnia?
Is to pile every pillow and blanket into the tub
and you nap there like you’re taking
a patchwork bath,
and I said once: “Oh--I wish I had a PICTURE!”
and you said: “Oh--I wish you and I had HOT SEX,
YOU gave ME a PEDICURE,
and then ELVES showed up at our doorstep,
with a PIZZA, to tell us JESUS just built a TREEHOUSE
in the backyard, and he’d like to meet us both,
so HOP IN HOTSHOT!”

You’re weird,
with a capital “WE.”
And I’m grateful, I marvel,
you’ve helped me hammer
some of my worst manners into manhood,
but I still admit--I like the way your shorts fit,
and how, overall, you’d call me “smart,”
even though sometimes
I do really stupid shit.

And I like how you giggle with your lips closed
like you’ve got a secret little moon in your mouth.

But I’m not insisting you’re some kind of goddess,
(I know you’re suspicious of unspecific love poems).
You’re more like a sunflower,
growing in the courtyard of an old folks home--
you mean things to people on a daily basis,
and this petty poem won’t explain
just how “my favorite” your face is,
(but I wish I’d been your bathroom mirror
the day they took off your braces).

You’re so pretty.

You’re like a vivid video game
and I’m the idiot kid
just trying to get to your next level--
I like your right-shoulder angel,
Hell, I like your left-shoulder devil.
I admire the lively deeds you do.
So if you come through a doorway again,
in a thrift store poncho,
or a drop-dead evening gown,
twirling and asking:
“Well, whaddya think?”
I’m gonna tell you:

“Shit howdy, Sunshine,
sit your fine self down!
If you’re looking for a compliment--

I think you’ve come

to the right place.”

i hate this part

DSC_0428

It isn't the missing and it isn't the not seeing. I can drown myself in homework and when there isn't any left, I can surround myself with people. It isn't even the days and weeks apart and the mere two days out of thirty in the same place. It's when you don't want words and you don't want conversation. It's when you don't want to talk and talking suddenly becomes worse than not talking. It's when there aren't words to say and nothing that can be said to made better. It's when it isn't that you need it but want so badly just the comfort of someone next to you and can hear beyond just their words that they care.

When it comes down to it, just being able to talk is always enough. It always is. I'm lucky. I have everything. I love having him to miss and love being someone to be missed. But the energy of doing so sometimes gets to be too much. It's strange being in a new place. It's strange being surrounded all day long and all night long and all weekend long by people you've only known for seven months; people that are your best friends but best friends in the way that the people at home who've known you your entire life aren't. It's a good thing when you want to surround yourself only by the people that you want to surround yourself by in a way you aren't allowed in a small town where friends become inherent over the years and it's a bad thing when you want someone to understand how you miss the way you used to watch your sister draw in the living room on Sunday's watching Gilmore Girls with your dad or missing the sound of the garage door close at 6:45AM waking you up hours before you want to because your mom is going running. It's a bad thing when you just want someone who knows you to tell you everything is actually okay and they mean it because they know you.

I'm desperately hoping these are some of my last winter shots because I literally can't stand clouds in the sky or snow anymore. When I walked to the cafeteria today in only a sweatshirt and yoga pants, I was skipping with joy. Alas, it's only March and it was still snowing in April last year, so it will probably be short lived. But every ray of sunshine lightens the load and I'm going to take out my spring floral scarves anyways! This is one of my all time favorite scarves. I got it impulsively last year in Seattle and I've found that it is irreplaceable in my closet. I wear it at least two times a week and it so easily goes with everything in my closet. Everything. It's funny how those little things you decide to buy as you're leaving the store and aren't quite sure of become the bigger components in your closet than the things you latch onto immediately in the store.
DSC_0432
On my "Winter" list I wanted a black open back dress but sadly, it took until now to wear it. I love the open back. Walking around in this outfit I felt the sort of 'cool' factor that is usually unattainable (it's usually a "I feel awkward because I'm the only person in the school wearing a dress or rights" factor). I really need some new black patterned tights! These were my first pair but they have so many rips in them. Sigh. I love them too much.

I'm crossing my fingers I get to spend 48 precious hours with my family and my family alone next weekend. I miss them unbearably.

Happy Birthday, Lifesize Paperdoll!

YAY! My blog is officially one year old! It was one year ago to the day that I posted my very first blog post ever!!!!!
It's nothing short of insanity to think how different one year can make. Between reading my journal from a year ago (I've been through three since) and reading my blog posts from last March, all I can do is laugh. A year ago, I was unsure and scared and desperate. I guess it kind of seems like looking back on myself now, I feel like I was such a little girl then because I was that scared and that desperate and that unsure of the future. It was all I thought about and all that I cared about. I had faith in myself, I suppose, but I didn't have faith that my decisions were right for the people around me; leaving my newfound and only true best friends I'd ever had behind, never telling someone I was on the brink of being completely in love with them, and choosing between an extra year at home or leaving. It was literally that point in your life when you come to a fork and have to choose one way or the other; that defining life changing point where you are forced to pick one, make sacrifices, and decide what you want.

I wish I could tell myself just that everything would be okay and choosing one path didn't mean I couldn't have what the other did. It didn't mean the end of anyone or anything and it didn't mean leaving everything behind entirely. I've always had it instilled in my brain to leave, it's always been my agenda, but the thoughts in my head had me questioning where then was it. I wish I could tell myself to breathe and relax. I wish I could tell myself that the only thing I could do was be myself and pray that everything worked out, just like it did. I got everything I wanted in the last year. I got a change of place. I went to college. I graduated. I turned 18 in the best place on the planet. I somehow managed to make Niklaas fall for me at the very last second and hold onto him even when I chose leaving. I made even more best, best friends that I always want to have. I love my parents more than I ever have and feel so lucky that they have been the influence that they are- I've never respected their choices regarding my sister and I more than I have now. I'm so appreciative and lucky to have what I thought last year meant the end of the world if I didn't get. And the truth? Regardless of whether I got the boy or left home, every moment that built to this one has defined me and I know myself better now than I ever have. And that's what makes me happiest.

Anyways, now that the sap talk is over, I figured I would just go through some of my old posts and my favorite posts and the life-changing posts! Here is a recap of my favorite posts!
1) The Curse of the Good Girl Most of my first posts are almost exactly like this one: whiny, desperate, but hopeful at the same time. I guess this one kind of strikes me because reading it I realize just how ready and willing I was to be with someone which is a first. A huge first. I never, ever wanted to truly be with anyone until him and more than anything else, that's what sets him apart. I remember writing this feeling so many things at once and being so completely frustrated but the second I wrote it all down I felt so liberated. At the end of the day, no matter how frustrated I was and no matter how many people told me I should just let everything out in the open, I knew I had to do things my way and I wasn't going to cause a scene. I was going to wait it out like I do best and it was worth every second.
2) Why Do I Hate Mondays? I guess this is really where my wearing dresses to school kind of took off. I still love this outfit to this day! It's funny looking back and seeing things that I would never wear like I did before again. But this outfit, I'd wear any day. My friend Omni and I took these and it was so fun!
3) PROM!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the post I'll look back on forever. It's soooo fun seeing us all dolled up and remembering how perfect of a day/night it was! I know prom is such a cliche, but it really was symbolic of the whole year and to share it with Niklaas was an irreplaceable memory. I love this post.

4) Our First Photoshoot As you can probably guess, this was Niklaas and my first 'shoot' together. I was seriously so nervous! I think he was, too. I swear, there is no better way to get to know someone than them taking your picture. Over and over again. Like that. It was scary! But, they were cute, and though we could do much better now, I still adore them.
5) They Sing Raindrops This is one of my all time favorite shoots. I think it was the first one where we really just figured it out. They turned out so well and the minishoot beforehand for my friend to draw made it even better. I love the pictures of Niklaas and I. They make me giggle and I'll always cherish them! I wouldn't say "hipster" is exactly "country" but it was our best effort. I still need to get a hold of the drawing my friend did of us from that day!

6)Birthday Week I happened to have the best birthday ever this year! I wrote every single detail about it in this post and it's fun to remember every single detail of the whole week.
7) Teenage Dream I think it's an unspoken agreement that this is our favorite post to date. It was so spur of the moment to take these pictures but they're the best we've ever taken. They truly are beautiful and I'm actually excited that I'm in such pretty pictures. I'm not saying I like that I, myself, look good, but that I am in such a gorgeously taken picture. Niklaas did a perfect job.
8) Cataldo Mission I think it goes without saying that Niklaas driving all the way to Missoula to get me was the nicest thing...ever. I still can't believe he did that. And then drove back to Spokane for the Josh Ritter concert. There was nothing quite like going to Josh Ritter and being with my mom, sister, her best friend that I love, Niklaas, Margaret, and all my friends. It was an amazzzzzing weekend home and I loved every second. It made my fall.
9) Christmas in Modcloth This dress was the first dress I ever purchased from Modcloth and it fueled a passion that is now undeniable. My Christmas was lovely this winter and coming home was unreal. I loved every second of being home with my family again and I am so excited to live with them again over the summer!
Merry Christmas Modcloth!
10) Teen Vogue As of winter, this is my favorite outfit I've worn yet. I loved how these pictures turned out and I loved wearing my Taylor boots and I loved my patterns and even though it was a last minute shoot, it was one of my favorites!
IMG_4819

So! There are my favorite shoots to date. I can't believe it's been a year and I'm so excited for another year of blogging! Thank you for listening to me for a year and being such wonderful, wonderful readers. Every single comment means the word to me and you all have truly helped make this year what it is!

Love,
Maggie

feeling like a nothing

DSC_0340
I skipped two classes yesterday. I somehow managed to get myself to yoga. (Somehow). But, after showering, doing more chemistry homework, I collapsed in my bed and slept through biology. I had to go to chemistry, so I did, and then I came home and collapsed again. After dinner, we watched Drop Dead Gorgeous which kept me from sleeping, thankfully, but immediately after, I took some sleeping pills and fell asleep...again. Before 10PM. I just slept a full ten and a half hours and I'm still tired. I think, maybe, just maybe, I've actually caught the flu for real this time. My throat burns and my body feels like it's about to fall to pieces. Womp womp womp.

Anyways, to make matters worse, it is still snowing. They (and by they I mean my mother) the winter that will never end and looking out my window now, I see no hope in a blue sky ever again. Seriously? Another 6 inches out there? Seriously? Yesterday, it felt like it was summer when it was 30 degrees outside and now it's back to being bitterly cold. In fact, I apologize for it leaking into my blog post and my bad, sad little mood. I am just itching for spring like anyone else! I guess I also didn't realize that even though I left home 3 hours away, the climates are very different. While my home home has lots of snow, Montana has had over 20 days of below freezing temperatures since winter break ended. Brrrrrrrrr!

I took these pictures in the middle of one such storm. I had on a cute sequin top under this enormous sweater but for the life of me, couldn't make myself take it off. I know it's frumpy and adds ten pounds to the additional ten pounds that the camera adds (or is that just film?) but it's just so cozy. My mom's side of the family originated in Norway and this is one of those whole knit wool sweaters that has been in her closet for years.

I got this cute little headband from the lovely Modcloth for free when I ordered a dress around Christmas! Isn't it cute? I was so excited. I love anything that's free ;). I got this skirt from Urban Outfitters last winter and hadn't worn it since so I decided to wear it again. It's funny how you find things like that in your closet that you used to be obsessed with but haven't worn in months and months! These tights have a whole in them (like all my opaque tights) but it will never stop me from wearing them! I love them too much!
