perspective is my new best friend

DSC_0258 DSC_0239

I've learned at the ripe old age of twenty (aha, old...) that perspective really is what just about everything is all about. Perspective. It's my new favorite world, new favorite way of living, and new best friend. Space, distance, distractions, thinking, new experiences... It's all gotten me to a happy place and a healthy place. I was texting my good pal and one of my best blogging buds Kylee a few weeks back and she said the smartest thing I've ever heard: the only way to get over something is to go through it. I mean, really, perspective has probably changed my year for the best and even my future. I'm an officially declared double major in creative writing and biology with an emphasis on pre-medicine. When I graduate, I want to go abroad and teach English in Korea or something of the sort and write all about it and if I get the inclination, go to medical school or get medically licensed to the point that I can volunteer in health sciences abroad. Missoula has one of the best writing programs in the country and even offer a degree in Science Journalism which is pretty much exactly what my majors set me up for. I want to study abroad and I want to do all of these things. I can't help but ask myself why I wasn't thinking about these things earlier and I really do think it all boils down to perspective: taking courses in both subjects, deciding I couldn't pick just one, actually talking to people who have careers along the lines of what I want to do, and knowing my options. It feels good. It finally feels like the pieces have fallen where they should.

...Is it weird to shop online for bras in a public place? I did that. Is it weird to ask a guy in your class for his number using the excuse 'so if I miss class I have someone to reach'? I did that, too. Is it weird to love going grocery shopping all alone and wander the aisles aimlessly and decide it's the most relaxing way to unwind in the middle of the week? Um, incredible. I've done so many weird 'adult-y' things lately I think I'm going to have to write about them shortly because I've surprised even myself.

P.S. These pictures are unedited because, well, Montana is pretty stinkin' pretty if I do say myself.

I'm coming to Montana. It's way too gorgeous there!

And you're right. Sometimes all you need to do is change your perspective and see things just a little bit differently. :)

These pictures are just simply too gorgeous!

Also, I love how you got that guy's number. I may need to try that. :P

And I have been feeling so adult-y too lately (also at the ripe age of 20). I think it was because I lived on my own this summer and getting a promotion at my on-campus job. It is strange, isn't it? But exciting too! :)

1. Girl, we are so on the same wavelength here and I so needed to read this post. I've been thinking about the future (and the present) and going back on forth on how I feel so much, but I love the idea of just putting everything in perspective. You can't change where you are or certain circumstances, but you can change how you look at them.

2. I think I need to visit Montana because, holy cow, it looks amazing.

3. I also need to try your phone number tactic. SO SMART.

Those photos seriously need no editing. So gorgeous I can't even take it.

Seriously, the whole concept science journalism sounds like the coolest job in the world. Getting to travel and help people and then write about it? Why does that sound like my life's goal... I'm so glad to hear that it feels like things are falling into place just where you feel they ought to be. Definitely a reassuring feeling. :)

moments when you realize you have a new perspective in life are moments i look forward to..i get confused and utterly worried most days and i hate that i have to go through it to gain perspective…but once i do, it's a delight.

reading that you're a double major -- and such opposites at that is an inspiration. i wish to go back to your age and be able to feel that the world is in my hands. am i too old for it? i don't know. haha!

ps. love love your hair…<3

What a great post! Going through change/moving on when things don't work out/knowing what to do in life is so terribly hard, but sometimes it all just falls into place! Glad everything is working out for you. ;D

Love your words, it IS totally about perspective! Mine changes on a weekly basis though haha. Your pictures are beautiful, they actually remind me somewhat of that backdrop of my pictures... Colorado and Montana have lots of mountains and grasslands in common I suppose! The unedited ones are perfect!

prepare yourself for a whole lot of love... your hair is gettting soooo long! i love it! i also love that dress. oh and that landscape, holy crap it's beautiful! unedited? stop it. i'm moving to montana. and of course i love the post too. i have always been a strong believer in perspective, even in the hardest situations good can be found if you look hard enough. i always feel so honored when you mention me on the blog, it sort of makes the friendship more real for some reason, knowing that we are more than blog friends. i'm glad that my words mean something to you, that they help more than myself in times of need. new number boy... cute?!?! urbannn, i haven't purchased anything from there in years! i went while in new york and couldn't find a single thing worth buying. h&m is taking over my love for urban.
