never let me go

DSC_0402
Let me tell you a story. One day, that happened to be a Friday, Friday, Friday, a girl named Maggie sat in a car for five long hours following the windy road from  Missoula, Montana to a teensy town in Idaho that is not in Russia. She ran through the door of her little white home and leaped onto the couch she helped her mom pick out when she was eight next to her sister she also helped her parents pick out (kidding) and died of bliss. Seven weeks away at school and there was nothing like coming home. But then, nature called, so Maggie hopped to the bathroom. It was only after she was unrolling a sheet of toilet paper that she noticed...but, what? A new toilet? And indeed, a new toilet had been installed in favor of the old green one that had been in the house since before she was born. And this was the moment that she realized along with discovering a clay turtle in the newly planted garden that had never been planted and a new rolling pin to roll cookie dough just how much she had missed. How even though this was home, life had carried on without her like she'd never even been there at all. All except for her little nine by nine foot bedroom decked in Taylor Swift memorabilia, these little instances of change could be found anywhere. And while it may have alarmed her that there had been a new toilet installed without her knowledge, it eased her mind to see that without her, things around the house were changing along with the people in it. The things that were noticeably different were noticeable signs of people's lives changing. A living room turned into an art studio by her little who was prospering and growing into a remarkable human being without her near. Maggie may have left and her family may have settled into a routine without her presence there every day, but coming home to feel how things have shifted to find a new, slightly older and different role in the household is a beautiful thing in itself. Change isn't a bad thing.

The wonderful thing about being short is this. Right here. Finding a top at Goodwill for two dollars that's long enough to be a dress. I love that! The same goes for short skirts- on really short gals, they aren't that short and look perfectly okay. It's great. I wear this top more than almost any in my closet anymore. Tucked into jeans, layered with dresses, with skirts, with shorts... you name it! I love it. It's perfect. I'm also debuting my target opaque tights which are perfect, also. These babies are never going to rip!

I still have this dear owl necklace from my pal Margaret. Whoops. I'm so bad at buying jewelry, though, that when I find something I like, I never want to get rid of it. This red blazer is my mom's and I find myself stealing more and more of her things lately...oops!

Anyways, I'm sorry for going MIA so suddenly. I do disappear every 3 weeks. However, I spent two days away from the computer entirely when I got home and it was the best thing in the world. Focusing strictly on enjoying my family and just being in my house again. Lovely. My dear friendboy had his wisdom teeth out, so basically, I spent the entire day on the couch with him watching movies while he slept on my shoulder. Which wasn't so bad, really. I watched Never Let Me Go today and it blew my mind!!! The whole idea of children being born purely for the purpose of using their organs was so disturbing and I have an ever growing love for Carrie Mulligan. I recommend that you all go watch it, especially if you have an ill surgery bed-ridden by snoring by your side ;)

I'm off to bed! I'm back to the blogging world, for a while. So I'll be commenting you lovely people back-- promise! <3

Maggie, these are some gorgeous photos! I love the dreary backdrop against your cheerful blazer. You look great.

Never Let Me Go is on my must-read/watch list! I will do it. Soon. Along with The Hunger Games. I promise.

I love the toilet story. Wow, if someone read that out of context it would just sound so weird, haha! But yeah, it's odd to think about all of the little changes that happen when we're not there. To think that life still goes on the same way as it always did, except we're just not there to witness it anymore. I dunno, just something to think about.

See, that's why I wish I was shorter, haha! My shorter friends always complain about it, but I think there are definitely some serious perks. :) That shirt dress was a great find, and hopefully those tights stay rip-free after all!

Lovely outfit! Black, white, and red colors are just so classic.

And I know exactly what you mean with the toilet story. It does feel a bit weird and sad that things change when you're not there. But after awhile, I got used to it.

I love being short for that same reason! This dress/shirt is a particularly awesome find.

House of the Scorpion is a book about the same thing. Creepy. Love the shirt you can wear as a dress, from another short person.

Lovely! I adore the red blazer with the stripped dress- it is very 1960's mod. I LOVE Montana. My bff went to Missoula and I would frequently visit her. She recently got married in Big Sky at the Soldier's Chapel. It is by far my favorite state. (And Idaho has my favorite thrifting, particularly in Twin Falls.)

love the whole change story... it really is true and when you notice it you don't feel bad! It actually makes you happy to see others change and still every time you're around they surround you with love, right? :) Oh God Maggie thanks for your very lovely sweet comment. I love the way you describe everything to perfection. It's like you knew me and you just said what I wanted to hear the most. Seriously. I talked to all my friends and none of them gave me the sweet response you did. If we lived close to each other I would've probably cried next to you for hours... because I had no one to do that with. I felt ridiculous and not worth it. I felt... like a disappointment to others. I don't even know why. So thank you for what you said. It means the world. :) Oh and the dress is adorable! Well, your shirt, haha I don't know how to describe it! And those tights are amazing... and you look so pretty wearing jewelry! Look at you! I am very proud! :)

Welcome back :)

haha. I feel the same way when I go home to my parents' First it was a candy dish. Then now they've somehow adopted a new stray cat.

I'm short too--I love it most of the time :) Except when I see so many bloggers wearing such pretty long skirts. Love the bright red blazer

You scored on that dress/shirt! hehe I totally understand what you mean about going home. Whenever I go back to IL, I always find new things or wonder why my parents changed something. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I miss the old. :)

Honestly, the idea of things changing once I leave home sort of scares me... naturally, I'm sure it'll be comforting once I'm in that position, but just the mere idea has been freaking me out for the past few years. No lie.

And yes - being short rules for that reason! :D

I love this outfit. It's really perfect, you seriously have such great style. I have an owl necklace almost exactly like that, except it's silver. I love being short, mostly because I can get away with wearing 6" heels and not looking like a giant. :)

I loved that movie. It was really complex and weird. And your outfit is really cute!! I'm a tad jealous of your ability to wear shirts as dresses. I can hardly wear dresses sometimes, which pairing them with jeans or something.

aw glad you're back! (though I'm late in reading this post :x) sounds like even if things are changing, you're enjoying your time back home and that's all that matters :) I love the combination of red with stripes, always have and you're wearing it perfectly!
