July 4th Weekend

DSC_0166
Once upon a time, when I was unable to differentiate between big numbers and little numbers, I thought that the fireworks and celebrations on July 4th were for me and me alone (my birthday being the 24th). I liked the holiday until I grew old enough to realize that my birthday was not in fact a National Holiday and that everyone essentially uses it as an excuse to be rowdy and annoy their neighbors. It took a little bit of convincing and a few days of mulling it over to convince me to go to the fireworks show, and, alas, I'm glad I did decide to go, loud music, people, and all.

My aunt came to Northern Idaho this weekend to see us all. My mom's refusal to use the word 'no' meant that when my aunt saw that my belt was fading, shoes were fraying, and purse was falling apart, we had to go shopping on my mom's credit card. "A dying aunt has to be good for something," she said. Well, okay. Not the best circumstance to shop, but it was a girls day out and in the end, retaining some normalcy and doing what we did for years and years as kids is what mattered. It was a busy, loud, cookie filled weekend and these are the memories I'll hold on to forever.

I'm still on the fence about this dress. I saw it on Urban Outfitters. Fell in love. Waited nervously for it to go on sale. Went on sale. Bought it. Waited for it to arrive. Finally arrived. Tried it on. Way to big. Throw on belt. Eh. I unfortunately spilled a few drops of coffee on it and my mom praised the length of the skirt (a rarity) so it might stay in my closet. It IS comfy, however, and even though I flashed the entire downtown, I might grow to love it! I hope.

Well, it's back to the work mill! Some exciting things are about to happen on the bloggy blog, and I'm excited for them to debut! I'm going to commit more to blogging as summer comes to an end. I feel like I took a necessary mental vacation from not just school, but blogging as well. Gearing up for school means organizing every area of life- including blogging! Yay!

I love that dress! :) And the bow on your headband is adorable. I used to hate going to fireworks shows as a kid due to the loudness of the fireworks, and I also have a thing about fire so... put those together and you have a really pouty kid. Luckily now, I do enjoy watching them. Glad you had fun despite all the people!

I think that dress is adorable and looks great on you! It's super pretty and the length is perfect. I'd imagine it'd be really versatile when you want to layer tights and such with it.

Aunts are the best, right? I think mine always notice something that my mom doesn't.

So bad that you spilled drops of coffee in your dress.. I love your dress too-at the first sight xp

Cheers,

The fireworks *are* for you.

This is a beautiful dress, my favorite ever.

On second thought... it sucks and you should send it to me.

Hahaha, that's adorable about your little kid self thinking that all of the fireworks and celebrations were for you. :) It sounds like you had a great weekend catching up with your aunt and everything. Like you said, one of those weekends filled with little moments that you'll always remember. And the dress is lovely, even if it was too big, you definitely make it work!

i totally agree about the blogging break. my birthday is a month and a day after the 4th of july. but yes, blogging break. this work thing has got me feeling a little more revved up about my blog and the internet in general. i feel like my taste is shaping up and i know more of what is 'me' and stuff. even though i'm old.
i was happy to see you updated. and that dress is lovely and makes you look like a doll.

I absolutely LOVE this dress! I tried this dress on and wanted to buy it so bad and it was on sale too, but I just didn't want to spend the $30. Now I regret it. It looks so good on you! Can I borrow it someday? :)
