it started with a whisper

DSC_3755 DSC_3769 DSC_3768 DSC_3784 i have a secret to share with you all... i think i'm falling out of love with dresses.  i honestly can't remember the last time i wore one and i certainly haven't posted a blog post in one in forever. is this an identity crisis?! for whatever reason, i'm really loving separates these days and have only purchased separates this summer. for my birthday, i got only tops and pants and skirts. seriously, guys. what's happening here? maggie without dresses is like the earth without water. maybe i'll wear one sometime soon, but for now, it seems like skirts and shirts and scalloped shorts are what i'm gravitating towards. this is the last time you'll be seeing this skirt (sorry, Tieka!) but I wanted to style it up one last time before sending it back. also, i'm a little bit in love with this shirt.

without sounding toooo narcissistic, i spent my entire shift at work today thinking about myself. i know, i know. it does sound bad. but normally all i do is think about other people and today, i spent the entire shift thinking about what i wanted to do in the next few months and over this next school year. i have this theory that doing dishes is the best way to get yourself out of any sort of mind-bloggling matter- within three hours, i'd devised a page worth of ideas and things i wanted to accomplish in the next school year. grades, extracurricular activities, my relationships, jobs, hobbies, photography, blogging, ect. i think for the most part i've been using photography and work as a bit of an escape from reality to just let things sit in my mind for a while. i think i might incorporate some of these things i want to do into a '22 before 21' list like so many bloggers do and having a list always helps me actually do instead of talk about doing. immediately after my shift i ran to my dad's office downstairs where i hammered everything out into an email that i sent to myself. progress.

THANK YOU all so much for your kind tweets, emails, comments, and instagram messages on my birthday! i had a spectacular if not low-key birthday and it was exactly perfect. i love you all dearly.

Is it a secret that I'm secretly very in love with Jasmine and her blog? If not... then let it be known world that I am. I don't really know how it began but I've known of Jasmine since before she won the Chictopia 10 contest to go to New York a couple years back and it was a real treat when I found her blog. We didn't become friends for a while but now I can honestly say she's one of my favorite people in the world, even if we haven't actually "met" before. We've exchanged so many long emails and I've pretty much poured my heart out to her on several occasions about everything. She always, always reads and responds to my long emails and it's the best feeling in the world to feel like I have a pal out there that will always listen to me. Plus, she's really good at giving amazing advice!! Her blog is also flawless and a constant source of inspiration for myself. She's a sweet girl with an amazing wardrobe. I don't think anyone could read her blog and not adore her within three seconds! :)

A few weeks back when I was in Minnesota, I tweeted about falling in love with Francesca's Collections. I had been having an unlucky day shopping until I walked into Francesca's and this dress was the first thing I saw. They only had one small left and I grabbed it. It was one of those items that I knew I wasn't going to walk out of the store without. I'm obsessed with Francesca's now. My roommate lives within five minutes of one! I'm so jealous! At the same time, Jasmine tweeted about wanting an elephant print dress and I freaked the heck out! I had purchased an elephant print dress at Francesca's that very day! As fate would have it, we were crushing on the same exact dress. She bought it a few days later and of course, we had to do a joint post. I love that we both used mustard yellow belts in styling it! I also love that hers feels so 'spring-y' being that she lives in California while mine feels, well, very 'Montana'. It's freezing here and if my pictures don't show that well enough, just know that I'm sitting in bed with a scarf on, wool socks, and three blankets. I guess that just means you get both seasonal stylings of this dress!

A couple months ago, Tieka posted an outfit of herself wearing the cutest polka dot skirt I'd ever seen. I commented on the post jokingly asking if she'd ever want to do a swap and less than three weeks later, it was in my mailbox along with this adorable also polka dotted dress! It was awesome. The best part about blogging to me will always be the people I've met and girls I've gotten to know. There are so many of you that inspire me beyond words and I just love being a part of this amazing community!

I feel like I've been on a blogging roll these days which is so refreshing. I always say that if I'm blogging regularly, the rest of my life is also happening on a regularly organized fashion as well. It feels so good to dress up every day and schedule little dates with Niklaas downtown to go take pictures, get coffee, thrift, or walk around exploring. Those little dates keep school stress manageable and I just love hanging out with him so much. (It seems as if I'm on a gushing spree today!)

I got the news this morning as I was walking to my first class that some of my favorite people in the world and the nicest family in the world would be coming into town today! So it looks as if I'll be showing them my dorm room today and getting to talk to people that are almost my second family. This weekend I'm also dragging Niklaas to Silent House which I've been dying to see, seeing my best friend in the world who is also coming into town and going out with her on Saturday night, spending a day writing at a coffee shop, and sleeping in. I never really realized how much of a sleeper I was until all of my roommates delightfully pointed out that I'm always the last to wake up on weekends. It never even crossed my mind as to how much I love sleeping in and how late I'll sleep if I'm interrupted. I slept in until noon on Sunday at Maggie's house in Minnesota! Oops!

CD swap

IMG_0011
Several months ago, I came across a wonderfully adorable, quirky, hilarious, and downright perfect blog written by an equally wonderfully adorable, quirky, hilarious, and downright perfect girl. I started reading her blog and fell bit by bit more in love with this girl's witty posts about her life that included everything from family nights to date nights gone wrong to stalkers to sorority events to loving Utah. I decided to admit my frequent visits to her blog and emailed her and found her to be the sweetest girl ever. We had a CD swap last month and it was utter perfection. I am so thankful for the blogging world and the people I've been introduced to through blogging and I am taking today to thank all of you for letting me be a part of your story and for those of you who have been a part of mine. There are so many of you that I adore and have loved getting to know through emails, letters, and tweets. Go visit Kylee's blog. You will not be disappointed. This song is maybe one of the cutest I've ever listened to and I have Kylee to thank for it.

Jasmine Swap!

DSC_0982
I did something huge today....I bought a Mac. A Macbook Pro. Not only was I nervous to begin with putting forth so much money, but there was a deal on Best Buy that included a free Wii or Xbox 360 if I bought an HP. Well, I ended up choosing the Mac and now I'm  dying to get it in the mail and play with it! I have had the worst luck and I swear I'm the most virus prone gal in the world. How it happens, I don't know. But I can't wait until June 4th.

Blogger has been down for over two days now. Wah! My laziness still hasn't hit the hay and I'm still a slug, so blogger not working didn't help things at all. When I blog, I'm way more productive and my days are much more structured. Isn't that weird?! Anyways, work is slowly becoming so great. I'm becoming less of an untrained puppy every single day! Today I was even given a gold star (not literally) and got a half hour to go visit my dad two floors below me because I'd finished virtually everything they wanted me to do for the week.Tomorrow it looks like I'll be back to onion crates and onion bags... but then it's Friday! Yay! I love that the weekends actually mean something to me this summer. And that I get paychecks this summer.

Jasmine and I had a little swap off last month and I had not posted what she sent me yet!! Grrr. I finally sent her package today so she will get hers next week and post her side of the swap! She sent me this top and in her note said that she thought I'd be able to wear it as a dress and she couldn't have been more correct! Being 4'11" has that affect on clothes. I LOVED wearing something with a Peter Pan collar and I think Jasmine has me convinced that I need more!

It was kind of cold the day I wore this outfit and since all the pictures I took in this sweater are lost, I decided to throw it on. I got it months ago from Goodwill and I know for a fact it must have been donated by a 90 year old woman. It just smells like old perfume and white permed hair. I have not yet donned my new favorite ballerina bun yet...so here you go. I added this bow that was previously a sewed in belt on a dress for a headband, threw socks on with some black wedges, and there we have it.

FRIDAY! YAY! My college pals are coming tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited! It's weird being away from the people you spend every hour of every day with for 8 months. I can't wait!
